Bush-caring
So I spent a couple of hours yesterday out on the creek bank, planting about 40 plants - native grasses and groundcovers. And my back is buggered.
I also did a fair bit of lantana-poisoning, so probably ingested a quantity of Round-Up...
Miss H gave us a hand, mixing cow manure and osmacote into each of the holes as they were dug. She was very enthusiastic... pity the enthusiasm didn't extend to clearing up afterwards, but never mind. There was a point where she asked "Am I being helpful???" as she was standing just where MrB was trying to dig, while squishing some of the new plants...
Miss M was much less 'hands-on' with the planting... wanting to know why we were helping the 'Government' by spending all this time and effort trying to regenerate the creek banks... She didn't quite get the concept by which, if we don't do our best to stop the bank eroding, the next '100 year flood' that swooshes down the escarpment will probably take most of our back yard with it.
There's always a large dollop of self-interest in altruism I find...
This isn't actually OUR creek - but it is another Wollongong creek. Our bank is considerably steeper. Shall post pics later this evening. And then you'll se what we're so worried about.

meanwhile the additional friction those plants provide to the free passage of flow will ensure that your upstream friends have a pond in their house.....
good for you. i wish i had somewhere to plant something or grow something. the only thing i grow is mould in the bathroom.
