On Balance

I recently started reading Tim Blair's blog, in the name of balance and objectivity. Y'know, to counteract all that pinko trash that I absorb daily - the SMH, The Age, The (gasp! horror!) Guardian. To try and see the other side of the argument, to see Conservatives as people too...

I'm not sure that it's actually worked.

He just makes me even angrier and more (small l) liberal than I was before. No actually, that wasn't really possible. He crystallises my arguments for me - and makes me feel like an idiot for trying to understand him. Because there's no two-way street as far as he seems to be concerned. All lefties are gullible morons. Fullstop. We have not an iota of intelligence between us. He alone knows the answers to the world's problems... he's just not sharing them with us. He only derides, yet offers no alternatives.

I've tried. I really have. But it's like reading Miranda Devine. He ain't ever going to give an inch. So there's no use me continuing to read his blog, because it's not helping me in my effort to achieve some balance in my life.

It just makes me cranky. And there's enough shit in my life making me cranky for me to needlessly add another pebble in my shoe.

The straw:

Trees Hideously Abundant

Reassuring words from Kim Beazley:

“Everybody in this country knows that the Prime Minister is not serious about global warming,” Mr Beazley said in Sydney today.

That’s a relief. Meanwhile, despite all the gloobal varming, trees continue growing like, well, trees:

More on that map here. Of course, as Grimmy realises, glowbill whorming will need to be replaced by a new scare should it ever go out of fashion:

That suggests a contest in creative scaremongering.

My first offer is … collapse of the hollow earth!

(Via Colin N., who notes: “Let’s hope the expanding and increasing forests are not swamped by the rising waters.”)

Because of course the fact, kindly highlighted in RED, that we are losing all the earth's rainforests means precisely zip to him. Because who lets a fact like that come in the way of a chance to mock...

Viva La Revolution!

Ta Tim babe, I really didn't think it was possible to be pushed further to the Left. But apparently it was.

But look, MissB - some parts of that map are GREEN!!!!

Nah, can't do it. I agree with you.

I've given up reading Miranda Devine. BUt the other day I caught Alan Jones on the teev doing his daily rant.

His position on Global Warming: We have more important issues to focus on. Like Trans-fat labelling in restaurants.

Far lefties scare me just as much a far righties. I used to do hydrologic modelling to set water allocations to the environment and to users for the gov, some of the unfounded BS that comes out of the far left really does them a disservice by alienating the people with the fingers on the pulse.

Having said that I am a greeny at heart but prefer my opinions to be based on science, not scaremongering.

actonb, you'd be having a full on rant fest if you lived in the US.

I know what you mean though - some days I think I can't be arsed to pay attention anymore, and there I am chucking things at Howard on the TV. It's a sickness.

Don't you understand, MissB? linking to Andrew Bolt with a throwaway line consitutes an argument!

john S - that's exactly it! A link and a pithy mocking comment. That just shows us how dumb we really are...
