On running away...
I'm going to Melbourne next weekend!
I realise that isn't the most earth-shattering pronouncement I've ever made, but still, it's actually very profound. For I am going to Melbourne by myself. For a whole weekend. And I'm a little scared, but also very very excited.
The last time I went anywhere by myself was when I spent the 3 months between 2nd and 3rd Year (uni) in Europe. I left the evening my last exam finished, and arrived back the day before lectures started the next year. 3 whole months away - obviously I spent some of that time with friends and family, but a lot of it was spent by myself. And I loved it. Then I came home, met MrB, and we were engaged 3 months later. That was 12 years ago, and I can't remember the last time I went anywhere by myself for any length of time (supermarketing not included!) Even Days Out are with friends... Weekends away ditto. I'm craving the solitude, the lack of peripheral noise. I kind of want to Just Be Me. In Melbourne! Yay!
However, I need help here. What to do? I can't just wander around aimlessly for 3 days, listening to the sounds of silence...
I'm already going to the football on friday night...
Any other suggestions?

Careful, B. If shroom finds nout about this he'll spend days telling you how crap melbourne is ...
What to do?
Shopping is a favourite. Bridge Rd for outlet stores. City, and ?Brunswick St? for nicer stuff.
NGA?
Eating?
What if you find out that you totally cant stand your own company??
You could meet killer rabbit. But that would just be a dissapointment ;-)
Yes...very very dissappointing. But seriously if you get tired of own company...
If you are staying in the city there are so many excellent things to do.
Fed Square has excellent museum of moving image and Ian Potter Gallery. And a rocking restaurant Chocolate Buddha, taxi etc
There is a new tour which takes you to all the hidden bars in Melbourne. And there are lots of excellent ones.
Hmmm so many more things....
I could meet the killer rabbit!
Have I conveyed the immense excitement enough?
If I find I can't stand my own company, I'll get myself a good book.
oh, that tour sounds perfect!
I'm doing the 'lets pretend I'm not a married for 11 years, mother-of-four thing' I'm just Me. And hidden bars sound like Me'll fit right in!
And you will be with a small crowd of others...probably living life just as dangerously! I have taken my mum to some of these bars and she really enjoys them, as long as they are not too loud! Theres a fairly new one where drink prices fluctuate according to how popular they are, called appropriately enough Trader Bar.

Bollocking bollocking bollockness.
Tis only on wed nights.
How could you be so cruel... building up my hopes, only to let them crash down...
But at least I got good seats for the footy. And I'm *praying* that Carlton wins. Just because.
Is it at the Telstra Dome? I went the other night and it was excellent. Corporate box though...no pleb seats.
Well after my cruelty I will have to draw you a map....Actually i can barely find them as they are all in some dingy alleyway behind huge smelly rubbish bins.
Bring lots of warm clothes cause its stupidly freezing at the moment. Don't forget gloves and a scarf and as you are a northerner you better bring a balaclava!
Nic, you simply must go over to The Saloon Bar in South Yarra, get some exstacy, do a few vodka shots, play some pool, then go back to your suite at The Hyatt on Collins and get a hooker for the rest of the evening...
Yes at Telstra Dome.
Am staying in St Kilda. (I think)
Am packing my black turtle neck so that I can blend in with the locals...
South Yarra sucks...only old rich wankers there. So is that where you hang out Fingers?
Not really.
Used to love going to 'Redheads' back in the early 90s, then it was 'Metro' for a few years, but these days I tend to chill with my aging cronies over in Sth Melb/Middle Park.
Down there next weekend (???) for a session at 'Flower Drum' with the ANZ boys...
Ohh Flower Drum is Peking Duck heaven. I bet thats where all the ducks want to go when they die!
Hmm, I could give you a few bar reccos. Let me compile a list. How exciting!!
