Sing it Out Loud!
I was driving home the other day, listening to (or more accurately, shouting at) Richard Glover on 702 Sydney. One of his Cryptic Crooning clues was Going Home (from the Local Hero soundtrack) by Mark Knopfler, and I was so so happy when the winner of the quiz picked it to play 'into the news'...
It's one of my all-time favourite 'Turn Up the Radio and Sing your heart out' toons. Or in this case, Turn Up the Radio and Hum your heart out (with snazzy guitar riffs) It just makes me feel so incredibly joyous and happy and like flying...
(This is an OK version. A gorgeous cover version is here)
Other tracks which do this are:
The Tide is High by Blondie
Come On Eileen by Dexie's Midnight Runners
A Message to you Rudy by The Specials (I have a soft spot for ska)
and a couple of others which, despite me love, love, loving, I appear to have completely forgotten at this moment. Always the bloody way!
I do believe that this list dates me quite considerably!

You already know how proud a Knopflerphile I am, AB.
MK closed the shows on his most recent tour with a stripped down version of this song, that was beautiful.
Sadly, his image will be forever tainted by the rah-rah that was Brothers in Arms, including the 21-night stand at the Ent Cent in 1986 (yes, children: Dire Straits sold out 21 nights x 12,000 seats in Sydney back then...).
A talented man.
I do Donnie - which is why I actually posted the YouTube clip :)
I'm not a massive fan, although I did walk down the aisle to 'storybook love' from The Princess Bride soundtrack - cheesy but very Knopfler!
Were we separated at birth? I LERVE all those songs!
And I also love (o! the shame!) 'You sexy thing' by both Hot Chocolate AND T-Shirt.
*goes fire engine red with embarassment*
Oh dear, we may not be able to listen to music in the car on a long journey if, hypothetically, we were going on one. I think that I may have to kill something if I hear "Come on Eileen". Don't hate me!
i LOVE 'Come on Eileen' too! i know some people detest that song but i cant do it. it reminds me of yr 12 Drama and jumping around singing at the top of our lungs when we were meant to be 'getting into character'.
we got in SO much trouble because it was actually a play about the Holocaust and you kinda dont want giddy sugar high concentration camp inmates or Nazi screws do you ?
Meva - Hot Chocolate rocks! I've thought of another one: Total Eclipse of the Heart. LOVE it!
KR - hmmm... It's ok, I promise I won't play it around you mkay?
Mex - Hee! Hyped up concentration-camp-inmates?! In denim overalls?
I love Come On Eileen. Yes the human race has many similarities. .
