RIP Radar
Firstly, I'd like to thank everyone for their kinds words and well-wishes in regards to my Headache Dramas. It was pretty scary, and that fact that everyone was so lovely was a soothing balm, a wet towel to the forehead of my feverish and paranoid soul...
Thank You. It's moments like these that make you appreciate the tender heart of the blogosphere.
It's also a little freaky that last night's episode of MNiE was so strikingly relevant to this ongoing drama...
Anyways...
It's taken a while, but I've finally sworn off Radar.
(And this probably isn't going to be meaningful to anyone other than the Punters, sorry)
I know, I know, I should have done it months, nay, years ago... but I just. couldn't. I'm weak etc etc.
They've stuffed up the format, so the little threads don't flow....
Dom still doesn't update enough...
The posts aren't even interesting anymore...
But the final straws came this week:

But the final straws came this week:
- 'Bron' and 'Suey' were indulging in a little back-slapping and 'nice to see an old face around here' self-congratulation. Then 'Bron' said 'Who are all these people' meaning the randoms... And I had a little WTF? moment, seeing as she'd only been commenting for a couple of months. And Dom didn't publish a comment from 'LongTimeRadarReader' pointing out this fact...
- Dom didn't publish my (actonb) comment on his 'View from the Departure Lounge' post...
"Most have slammed his (Tony Blair) record on account of Iraq. Blair was the salesman who gave the war what scant veneer of legitimacy it had, and for that he will ever be described as Bush's poodle – a lovely description given the man's inherent prissiness.
And Tonza should indeed be remembered harshly for the debacle in Iraq. But he has other crimes to take into account. It was he who, almost a decade ago, coined the phrase "People's Princess" – a contradiction in terms if ever I heard one. He was described at the time as the nation's Mourner-In-Chief. I'm sorry Diana died, but let's be honest, she had a better life than she deserved, and the charity work she did was the least anyone with half a conscience would do if they received massive amounts of money because they'd married someone wealthy.(My emphasis)"
I took him to task, quite politely, about the mean-heartedness of that comment, as well as his encouragement of similarly harsh commenters, and pointed out that it reflected badly on him.
and then
Radar is deader than a door-knob AND a dodo, and it makes me quite pathetically and strangely sad. I miss Sian and Vic and Garry. I miss winding up Blondie, even if it was like shooting fish in a barrel... I miss the comforting cliquey-ness of the Punters.
Why is this so?????

It's your birthplace, AB - you were spwaned there. Until Radar (actually not Radar, but JML), you were just blogless N----- from Bulli.
You can be sad about that, but juding from the recent content, it is no loss now.
It isn't like the demise of The Cavern Club or Studio 54.... or Stranded, or Kinsela's.
You're so right!
That's what it is... it's like leaving home, then coming back to find everything's changed...
i dont even go to radar for a peek anymore. i did miss it at first, but you'll get used to it dearest.
Teehee - thanks mex. I'll just remember the good times - and the fabbo friends I've made!
The blogosphere is chocked full of lovely, interesting people, and of course, some right old *****, who I try to stay away from :0
But what is this 'radar'?
It was one of the (if not THE) first of the SMH 'blogs'.
link
'The Punters' were a bunch of people who commented there - Donnie, W, mex, LaRue etc.
And the blogosphere is wonderous indeed! If you ignore the nasties...
OMG was completely oblivious to Radar.
Sad, really.
As a fringe radar reader (well really it was a Sydney thing) I have been long gone from bothering to read it. Dullsville indeed nowdays. I now forsee the end of the Sam's as they are running out of material and interesting things to do with their own bodies.

GW - not sad, just not ... Sydney. Which is perfectly understandable...
KR - I never read the Sams. Ever. They were band-wagon-jumpers anyways.
LaRue - you shouldn't be allowed to drunk-comment. Now my anonymity is blown to smithereens. Thanks. :)
I read an entertaining post about why women were better looking than men on there, but it was posted a while back!
It is a shame when things we love run out of steam. Already I have noticed a rash of comments on blogs I like about "giving up" or "it not seeming as fun any more".
Sniff.
Diana. I didn't like her at the time. But I am sorry when anyone dies. Dodi Al-Fayed too.
The comment you emphasise is a bit much for me though, and does reinforce class prejudice in a way that I thought had also gone the way of the Dodo (or Doorknob, if you prefer!)
Ah well.
Radar has really gone downhill. Sad but inevitable.
Hope you had fun at Adam Hills.
It's gone now. Sorry about that Sheryl.
Oops. There I go again.
Sorry Sheryl.
Damn, can't stop!
So, Sheryl, I had no idea Radar existed. Would I like it?
(Sorry. I'm just Chesty-lite.)
This is pretty much what I thought Chris - I wasn't a fan of hers, and am definitely NOT a fan of her continued deification, but seriosuly? She's dead. There's no need to be so bitter and twisted!
W - I know, I know. I'm hoping it's because I'm grown up now! And Adam Hills rocked.
I got nuthin to say to you LaRue... You need to continue to sit in the naughty corner until I forgive you...
It's hard for me to tell - you may like it Meva, you may not. But you WILL get frustrated at the blatant CENSORSHIP in the commenting.. And the fact that Dom couldn't be arsed updating with any greater frequency that once a day (the comments that is). Just thank your lucky stars your're in Melb, and therefore above these things...
