How good is yum cha???????

My uncle, who has been here since last March, goes back to the UK on Sunday. And, being from that Land of the Hooligan & Ratbag (ie Liverpool) he had never heard of yum cha. So we all trooped off to Imperial Peking at Blakehurst (well 'we' being me, MrB, Misses M & H, Mum, Dad & UD) to indulge in a yum cha feeding frenzy.

We sat down, got our pot of tea, and the first lady approached us laden with Stuff. We got about 5 or 6 plates, and almost inhaled them. The plates were empty within a matter of seconds. It was a sign of things to come...

It wasn't the Ultimate Yum Cha Experience, as Imperial Peking is pretty small. And Hexagonal. So there were no trolleys, just little Chinese ladies bearing trays of steamers and plates of deep-fried goodies. But, due to it's proximity to Hurstville, the yum cha is so very good. And there were odd waiters who kept making strange noises to amuse the kiddies....

So now UD is educated in the ways of the BBQ Pork bun. And the Daan Tart. And the salt & pepper calamari. It was all so very good, even if I did end up enduring the rest of the afternoon with that bloated lethargy that over-indulging in yum cha can bring...

Yum cha is ace.

Sadly my partner does not agree, mainly because he insists on getting schlagered the night before most yum chas. I can see how chicken's feet would not be so attractive with a hang-over, but even so....

Barbecue pork buns (or char sieu baos as my father correctly calls them) are the best best best of all yum cha.

hey gigglewick - I tend to go a bit BBQ Pork curraaazzy... I have the fluffy ones, the baked glazed ones, the steamed dumplings, the rice noodle pancakes... My co-yumcha-ers get a tad sick of it, to be honest.
MrB, while loving the yum cha, is not fussed on sushi train. Because he feels he can never get his money's worth... And always wants noodles afterwards because he isn't full enough...

Haven't had Yum Cha for oh so very long.
Note to self: MUST seek out a good Yum Cha establishment here in CBR and introduce the young-uns to this treat.

Last time I had Yum Cha was 3 days before Xmas, and I got food poisoning and vomited at a mate's birthday party after half a "stomach calming" beer. Friggen tops.

Best so far are East Ocean (Soup dumplings! Terrible service!) and Sky Phoenix (Amazing Service! Yummy food!)

We should so do yum cha again soon, MissB - I'm with you in my BBQ pork lust also and I drive others insane with it and we could just sit there all morning and eat bbq pork, and no-one could judge us.

No-one, y'hear?
