Golly it's hot outside today! I don't know why I'm constantly taken aback at the heat of an Australian summer. I mean, I've been here for 24 years, and every year it gets to December and I think 'Phew, I don't remember it getting this hot before...'. Yes, I realise I am a complete retard, but there you go...
We spent the weekend out in the yard again, more retaining-wall-building... and a little bit of path-making too. And some repotting and general tidying. And Thank God for mothers-in-law! Mine came down for the weekend and did ALL the ironing - all sixteen of MrB's shirts, plus about 10 of mine. The rumpus room was starting to take on the appearance of a Chinese laundry, with shirts and stuff hanging all over the place.
And... Christmas Tree! We used to decorate the tree on the last day of term, but seeing as the school year finishes on 21 December this year, we did it this weekend, and it looks pretty darn festive. All the girls decorated it, with the usual fights and squabbles, but that's part of the tradition too...
It's the Big Girls' School Presentation this morning, so I've taken the day off. I received a letter in the mail the other day, cordially inviting me to the assembly, as BOTH of my girls are receiving awards. Brains the size of planets etc etc... We shall celebrate with lunch somewhere or other... this is turning into another family tradition - this is the fourth year in a row Miss M has received an award for academic excellence. So they get to choose where we go for lunch, and knowing my gourmet girls, they'll opt for sushi or laksa over Maccas. Yay!
Update: Bloody twins were painful, so no special lunch today. 2 hour presentation was also painful. But - Miss M got the 'Academic Achievement' award for the fourth year running and Miss H got an award for excellence in English and Maths. Woot!

You have such smart children. Bugger about the little ones though ...
Thats a lovely tree AB. I refuse to bow down to all the bahumbug christmas behaviour that everyone is exhibiting at the moment. I love Christmas. What can be wrong a bout a day where there is lovely food, lots of champers and lots of presents. And great foliage too. What more could you ask for?
cute tree! i stuck mine up on the weekend... it's pretty cool, i got it last year after christmas was over on sale and it's one of those fibre-optic ones. tacky? never! it's brilliant... though, unlike most people, i couldn't be bothered to spread all the branches out evenly and have quite seriously just stuck it up. no-one's looking at the branches anyway, we're looking at the flashing lights and the shiny balls.
enough about the fibre-optic tree, i suppose...
Damn you and your chipper Xmas post! I had my bah humbugging going a treat and you ruin it with a real live tree!
im all for Bah Humbug this year. with way too many presents to buy and no money of which to speak its definitely going to take some kind of bank robbery to make me happy.
that or everyone dies and i dont have to buy any presents.
LaRue - they are indeed smart. and also cute.
KR - I'm usually bahhumbug about Christmas. I don't like the stresses. But the kids love it, and you can't crush the enjoyment out of them.. so I kinda just go with the flow...
Mars - Hee. I'm a purist. It must be a real tree, and still alive. I'm a tree snob. But fibre optics sounds pretty darn kitsch... Have you seen those upside-down trees. Now them I do not understand...
OMel - Sorry about that. It was a half-hearted dun-bahhumbugging if that makes it any easier...
Mex - I'm thinking about doing the 'no prezzies, just a really sweet smile' thing this year. And smiling is a real effort for me, so they should appreciate it.
